He got his start in television as a writer and executive producer on Dawson's Creek before going on to create two of The WB's most critically acclaimed dramas, Everwood and Jack & Bobby.
He created and produced the ABC legal drama Eli Stone and the USA family drama Political Animals.
Berlanti has been in a relationship with LA Galaxy soccer player Robbie Rogers since mid-2013. On February 18, 2016, Berlanti, and Rogers, welcomed their first son via surrogacy, Caleb Berlanti.
